Cover Reveal Ramblings – 10/21/2017

As promised, here is the new cover for book five. The art was done by Marc Guerrero, who is a rock star and a pleasure to work with. I’ll reveal the title sometime next week. Please, leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Sunday Evening Ramblings – 11/13/16

I’ve got a new book coming soon. It’s a humorous look at life in jail because it’s much better to laugh at misfortune than cry. So far, the feedback I’ve received is that it’s laugh-out-loud funny. A word of warning, though: this book is NSFW. It’s so profane it’s probably not safe for home either, so read at your own discretion.

Here’s a brief snippet:

So to spice up your Tuesday afternoon, you chug a fifth of whiskey and let happen what may. At some point, it becomes imperative to check on your elderly neighbor who you haven’t seen in a couple of weeks. He might be in danger, you realize, so you charge across the neighborhood in denim shorts and tennis shoes. What could possibly go wrong? you reason as you proceed to bang on every door and window, calling his name and growing more fearful with each passing minute. When the cops arrive after several calls from other concerned neighbors, you realize your wallet is still at home, so you attempt to run back there to retrieve it. Three Taser jolts, a dose of pepper spray, and a two minute beating later, you find yourself in the back of a patrol car charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on an Officer and one count of Aggravated Burglary, and you are heading to jail. You’ve never been in trouble before and have no idea what to expect inside.

Never fear! This educational guide will give you an overview of 101 things you need to know about being an inmate in a county jail, so while you wait to be fingerprinted, photographed, and booked in, you can relax a little and enjoy yourself instead of fretting over when you’ll get to see an attorney.

Amazon and Nook Books Bestseller

The Brotherhood of Dwarves - Book One
The Brotherhood of Dwarves – Book One

Yesterday, The Brotherhood of Dwarves became a bestselling book, hitting #6 of all Fantasy titles on Amazon and #143 of all books and rising to #51 of all titles on Nook Books. A huge round of applause needs to go out to everyone at Seventh Star Press for their efforts, and a personal thank you is extended to all of my friends and readers who helped keep this series alive over the years. Without all of you, I would have faded away long ago. While this surge of success is wonderful, the hard work is just beginning in order to keep growing and expanding the readership base.

If you are just now discovering this series, I want to express my gratitude for you taking a chance on my work. Even if you end up not liking the first book, I appreciate that you took the time to read it. As I’ve expressed to many people over the years, please offer me your feedback, as I love to hear what readers think. That’s how I can grow and improve as an author. Please know that I make every effort to respond to everyone personally and encourage you to engage with me on here, Twitter, Facebook, or Google+.

Welcome to The Brotherhood of Dwarves, the adventure you’ve been waiting for! As always, thank you for your support.

Enough with the Satire for a Minute; This is Still Serious

Seventh Star Press Open House
Update – 12/26/13:  A lot of people shared this link, and a few people were generous enough to purchase books.  A handful of people gave direct donations that saved Christmas for this family, but now that the holidays are over, what about January and the next month and the next?  The reason I made my offer was because I recognize that the circumstances they face extend beyond just Christmas gifts for the children.  Sure, that makes us all feel warm and fuzzy for a little bit, but the medical bills and larger issues still loom.  Here’s my challenge:  Are you willing to help a real family in need beyond the holidays?  Will you not just share this link but encourage your friend to read it?

I recently learned that a person close to Seventh Star Press, someone who has been a big supporter of my writing, is dealing with some serious financial difficulty. This person’s spouse suffered debilitating health issues a year and a half ago, which has caused tremendous financial strain on their family. This person works and raises kids, and these circumstances and difficulties could happen to any one of us. Because of the financial strain, Christmas for this family is not going to be a joyous occasion. Instead, they are worried about whether or not they can pay the rent and keep the lights on and put food on the table.

In the spirit of this season, I want to help out, but I don’t have any money myself. I work in education. But I do have a good series of books, so here’s my offer. I will donate 50% of any and all royalties I earn between now and Dec. 31 directly to this family, and Seventh Star Press will match that amount. I’m posting Amazon links to each paperback version of my books, but this offer applies to any format from any outlet. It’s a small gesture, I know, but right now, it’s the best I can do. Please, if you can, let’s help this family get through this difficult time:

The Brotherhood of Dwarves –

Red Sky at Dawn –

The Fall of Dorkhun –

Between Dark and Light –

Thunder on the Battlefield –

Update – 12/18/13: we’re making progress, but not nearly enough.  Please, if you can help out financially, buy my books.  If money is tight for you, too, please share this link and spread this story around.  Let’s help out a deserving family.

Update – 12/17/13: Thank you to everyone who shared my links and spread the word about this yesterday.  Your support and encouragement got this idea in front of a lot of people.  We made a small dent but not nearly enough.  Please, keep the message circulating and let’s help this family get through the New Year on better footing.
